On May 6, 2023, I finally got married after an 18-year relationship with the man who is now my husband. It took him "a little" while to pop the question! Of course, I was eagerly awaiting this wedding! But I was also very apprehensive because I have had androgenetic alopecia since I was 20. So I had to find a solution to have the perfect hairstyle on the big day 😉
As you probably know, the topper obviously my solution, but it wasn't without some doubts and apprehensions. I'll tell you all about it in this article!
My apprehensions
My androgenetic alopecia was diagnosed when I was 20. At that time, it wasn't really noticeable yet. But 10 years later, my scalp started to thin out significantly and my alopecia became visible. I often found myself thinking about my future wedding with apprehension. How would I feel beautiful on that day? Would I be able to get a decent hairstyle? All of this made me very anxious and sad.
To be honest, I even resented my partner for not proposing sooner because of this. I thought that the longer he waited, the more disastrous and pitiful the result would be.
But around 30 was also the age when I wore my first hair topper . Discovering this solution was a real relief for me in my daily life. But it also took away those apprehensions about my future marriage! I now knew that I'd be able to feel good on that day, despite my alopecia, which was progressing year by year.
Here is the state of my alopecia a few weeks before my wedding:
It may not seem like a big deal here. But my hair loss is so extensive that it would have been really difficult to have a nice hairstyle. I would have had to use a lot of thickening powder. And the bun would inevitably have been very small, which I think would have ruined the look on my wedding day.
A hair topper , yes, but with which hairstyle?
I was finally relieved to know that I'd have hair worthy of the name for the big day. But being a regular user of hair topper , I also know that the product can sometimes move around a bit during the day. My hairline is very bald. So the slightest shift of a few millimeters can quickly become visible (at least to me). On a day-to-day basis, I know I have the reflex to check from time to time that everything is in place. But I knew I wouldn't necessarily have the opportunity to do so on the big day. I was also worried that the bun wouldn't last and that I'd turn into a pumpkin with a toupee after midnight!
So, I initially thought about going for a romantic hairstyle with my hair down. I figured that the pressure at the back would be less than with a voluminous bun and that a simpler style would be easier to maintain over time.
But during the fittings, the hairdresser also tried out a bun hairstyle on me. And it was a revelation! Surprisingly, I felt that my hair was much more secure, and that it didn't pull back at all as I had expected!
Feel free to watch the video showing the two types of hairstyles I tried out (French version; the English version is also available on the channel):
I still hesitated for a long time because I didn't know in advance how it would turn out on such a busy day as a wedding. But deep down, I knew I wanted a bun to go with my Disney princess dress! So I decided to make my choice based not on my alopecia, the topper the stress associated with it, but rather on what I really wanted deep down.
So I took the risk of opting for a bun for the wedding!
In practical terms, how did it go on the big day?
On the big day, the hairdresser put about fifty pins in my bun to secure it! The topper budge an inch from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. I didn't even feel the need to check it several times during the day because I could feel that it wasn't moving. I had put a little thickening powder around the front edge just in case, to make sure the topper wouldn't slip back slightly.
I was so afraid that the topper , that I wouldn't notice it and then realize that it was visible in the photos (and that it was therefore potentially visible to everyone at the wedding).
But during the day and then in the evening, I felt that it was perfectly in place! Because you can feel it topper a topper slips back. I was able to move around, dance as I pleased, and carry my children. In short, I was completely free to move around.
I received over 1,000 photos from the wedding. I don't know how many of them are of me, but I can say that my topper visible in ANY of them! And that was a real relief for me. I wasn't afraid that people would notice I was wearing a topper at the wedding. Everyone knows I wear one because I don't hide it. But I didn't want to see my wedding photos ruined by a badly positioned toupee!
So today, I am really happy to be able to assure you that yes, you can be perfect on your big day with a topper!
My advice is to choose a hairdresser who specializes in weddings and is gifted in her field. She'll know how to work with hair topper , even if it's her first time using this type of product. Don't hesitate to have the roots touched up if the color is a little lighter than yours. This will help bring out the color, and the result will still be very natural (this is what I did with my topper Anaïs, which is initially much lighter than my hair).

Hi, I'm undergoing chemotherapy and losing my hair. It's becoming sparse.
Someone told me about topper then I was also told that because my hair will be more fragile, the clips won't hold, so what should I do?
Also, with clips, there's a risk of damaging the hair that's left and causing it to fall out.
What do you recommend?
Or maybe a wig, but I do have hair, just not very much.
I also have short hair.
Hello Madam,
Women with alopecia have fine hair, and toppers specifically designed for fragile, fine hair.
In addition, to keep the topper in place, rather than using clips, you can use sensitive grips.
