Root effect on a topper wig: everything you need to know about this option!

I get a lot of messages asking me what the "root effect" option is that you can select when ordering a hair topper or a wig on the site. That's why I've decided to explain in this article the different types of root effect that Comme un diadème offers.

1) What is a root effect? Definition.

At Comme un diadème, a root effect corresponds to a slightly darker shade at the roots to create a bright and natural contrast between the color of the model's lengths and ends and that at the roots. The topper wig with a root effect is therefore mainly intended for women who want a natural look that blends perfectly with their hair. For example, root effects allow you to wear a shade that is lighter than your hair color at the roots, which is a reminder of your natural color.

That's what I chose for the style I wanted to wear on my wedding day. I opted for the Anaïs style, which was much lighter than my hair color. So I created a root effect reminiscent of my hair color on the style, which became the Ana style, perfect for me!

The result was much more natural, and the style blended easily with my own hair on my wedding day. This wouldn't have been the case with the Anaïs style. And we all know how important it is to feel comfortable on your big day!

The root effect will be particularly appreciated on the light blonde models on the site, enhancing their natural look (Gisèle, Anaïs, Blake). It will also enhance golden blonde and light brown models (Alice, Autumn Leaves, Kate with Brazilian hair, Emma).

However, it will be much less visible on dark brown models (Meghan, Leïla, Kim). The root effect can be requested to be more or less long and pronounced if you specify this by email on the day of ordering.

At Comme un diadème, the root effect is an option (charged at €95) and the product is not eligible for return because we create this root effect ourselves upon request.

At Comme un diadème, you will receive personal support. You can send any questions you may have to contact@commeundiademe.com via the contact form. In addition, you can send photos of your hair (or alopecia) via the support form so that we can advise you on the colour, Cap size or length of the hair topper/wig.

Comme un diadème does not have a shop or business premises, it is only an e-commerce website. However, you are not alone in your purchase and you can be advised on colour, base size and length based on your photos by sending them via the support form. After ordering the topper, you can then try it on at home and send it back if it doesn't suit you, respecting the 14-day withdrawal period.

French Social Security does not reimburse hair prostheses made of natural hair that cost more than 700 euros.

Payment in 4 installments with no fees is possible via PayPal.

All out-of-stock models are restocked on a regular basis. However, it is not possible to give a precise restocking time for each model. If you are interested in a particular model, we advise you to subscribe to the out-of-stock alerts in order to receive an e-mail as soon as the product is available again on the website.

Orders are delivered within 10 days in mainland France, Belgium, and Switzerland. For international orders, delivery times may be slightly longer.

You must exercise your right of withdrawal using the withdrawal form. Once you have returned the product, you will be refunded within 10 days of its receipt at the Comme un diadème premises.

Custom orders are possible at Comme un diadème. To do so, please feel free to submit a request via the support form.
We use natural Brazilian "Remy" hair. The term "Remy" means that the hair and the cuticles of the strand are oriented in the same direction on the hair topper. This is in contrast to non-Rémy hair, which is assembled loosely. They are therefore more prone to tangling and damage.

You should choose the Cap size of the topper according to the extent of your alopecia and the density of hair you wish to acquire. It is preferable that the clips are not attached in the area of alopecia where the scalp can be quite sensitive. In addition, extensive alopecia will require the addition of a high density of hair to compensate for the initial low density.

For extensive alopecia, we recommend bases measuring 18 × 18 cm or 20 × 20 cm. These bases will provide effective coverage, density, and comfort. Larger bases are available for very extensive alopecia.

Smaller bases (15×15 cm) will give your hair a little less density. But they will make it easier to tie your hair up in a high ponytail.

We offer hair toppers with a density between 120 and 130%. This density is considered standard by international retailers.

The hair is straight. Except when it is indicated in the product description and title that the model is naturally wavy or curly.

The life span of a topper will partly depend on how well it is cared for. The typical life span is between one and two years. To increase the life of your topper, you should not wash it too frequently.

The topper should be brushed out carefully after wearing. It is convenient to place it on a wig head. This way, the hair does not get a bad fold before the next use.

Hair should not be washed too frequently. Every 4 weeks or more is a good frequency. Close the clips before washing the hair and detangle the hair before and after washing. You can use a mild shampoo for colored hair followed by conditioner. Orchid Oil shampoo and Brazilian Keratin conditioner have proven to be effective!

Every four shampoos, you can apply Silicon Mix, available on Amazon. This will restore your hair's original shine.

If you have dry ends, we recommend adding a little argan oil to moisturize the hair fiber.

Natural hair can be heated, straightened, and curled without any problems. However, as with your own hair, you should not overdo it so as not to damage the hair fiber.

Hair hair topper has usually undergone complex bleaching and colouring processes before achieving its final colour. This hair has therefore been sensitised. It may react in an unexpected way to a colouring or bleaching process. It is usually possible to darken a hair topper. However, it is not recommended to bleach it as this may alter the hair. Therefore, when in doubt between two shades as to which hair colour to choose, it is best to choose the lighter shade of hair. In any case, it is important to have the hair topper coloured or bleached by a professional colourist who is used to working with this type of hair. Hair toppers Comme un diadème are sold uncut. Therefore, at first try, the hair topper may not seem to fit your face and/or hairstyle. However, a rough piece needs to be made to fit you completely. We therefore recommend that, if the basic colour, length and size are suitable for you, you have the hair topper cut by a hairdresser so that it can blend in completely naturally with your own hair.

Are you interested in a model that is not available in the Comme un diadème catalog?

At Comme un diadème, custom orders for out-of-stock products are possible.

It is important to note that custom orders are not eligible for return as they are made at the specific request of the customer. In addition, delivery times may be long for this type of order (approximately 3 months).

Comme un diadème asks that you only request a quote if you are genuinely interested in the product and the terms of a custom order, so as not to overload suppliers with requests that will not be fulfilled. We thank you for your understanding.

After you submit your custom order request, a quote will be sent to you within 10 days. This quote will be valid for 3 weeks after receipt, as supplier prices tend to change over time. Once you have agreed to the quote, a product sheet will be created specifically for you. Once payment has been received, the product will be ordered directly from the suppliers. It will be sent to you as soon as it is received at the Comme un diadème premises.
