When you decide to buy a hair topper, choosing the right base size is very important. Indeed, the size of the base of the topper will determine the final aesthetic result. But also in the comfort felt on a daily basis when wearing the hair prosthesis.
The role of the base of a complement hair
When you suffer from androgenetic alopecia and are considering wearing a hair topper, it is usually because you have suffered a significant amount of hair loss. The Cap size should therefore be chosen carefully according to this hair loss. The more advanced the alopecia, the larger the base size should be to compensate for the hair loss. Indeed, if the base size is too small, the baldness will still be visible, especially at the back of the hair, where the hair topper spreads. If, on the other hand, the baldness is still very moderate, a smaller base size will be sufficient to mask the hair loss.
It is also important that the clips of the topper can be clipped to areas that are not affected by hair loss, for comfort, but also to avoid pulling on an area already weakened by androgenic alopecia.
The different Cap sizes from toppers capillary Like a diadem
Several base sizes are available to suit different degrees of female alopecia. There are Cap sizes: 5 x 5", 7 x 7", 8 x 8" and 9 x 9". These measurements correspond to the size in centimetres, length and width of the hairpiece. These are standard sizes, which can be adapted to all head sizes, unlike the wig sizes. However, the size of the base should be chosen according to the extent of the alopecia. But also according to the level of coverage and comfort desired.
5 x 5": A base suitable for very early stage alopecia
Comme un diadème occasionally offers Cap sizes of 5 x 5" for women with very early androgenetic alopecia. This Cap size is also perfect for women who wish to wear a hair topper for purely aesthetic reasons, without necessarily experiencing hair loss.
Base 7 x 7": The choice for moderate alopecia
In the case of moderate alopecia, the 7 x 7" base provides sufficient coverage. This wide base is perfect for women who are new to hair toppers. It combines the comfort of a wide base with sufficient coverage to compensate for moderate hair loss.
8 x 8": A perfect base size for advanced alopecia
In the case of advanced androgenic alopecia, i.e. hair loss that extends over the entire top of the head and is beginning to be quite visible, the 8 x 8" base is the best choice. This is because the base is wide enough to cover and compensate for significant hair loss. The clips attach to the hair on the sides, rather than on the top of the head. This makes this base very comfortable to wear on a daily basis. Baldness is no longer visible at all.
9 x 9": The basis for hair toppers suitable for extensive alopecia
Extensive alopecia is a very visible hair loss on the entire top of the head. This alopecia also extends to the sides and back of the head. The small amount of hair on the top of the head will make it difficult to fix smaller bases. It is important that the clips are attached in areas where there is enough hair for the topper to hold well. The 9 x 9" bases are ideal for this type of alopecia. The coverage is optimal, the density provided perfectly compensates for significant hair loss. The comfort of this large base is also highly appreciated.
What about hair loss or total alopecia?
When a woman is faced with total alopecia or alopecia, Comme un diadème recommends opting for a wig instead. Indeed, patches of alopecia tend to evolve in location and/or size over time. The clips of hair topper could therefore end up in a bald area. The wig avoids this because it covers the entire skull. One of the advantages of the wig is that it is easier to choose the desired color and length. Indeed, when we wear a wig, we can put all our hair in a cap and not try to blend with the prosthesis hair! We then have the freedom to go from blond, to brown, and from long to short according to our desires 😀
